County), but grew up in an upscale median in Carlsbad California. He found love at a youthful
age of eighteen but devoted his life to serving his country foremost. And in the process, found
stardom of unparallel proportion].
……… An old English Victorian house in a countryside in Baxter Springs Kansas, the house was a
semi-ranch house with an open front and large backyard with a swing chair in the front entry of
the building. The building recessed about forty-five feet from an access road with occasional
traffic passing by. Collecting letters from the mailbox is a daily exercise for the dweller Mrs.
Dora Taira Madeline Illingworth (a widow) portion of the huge backyard was used as a livestock
and organic comestibles.
(The year was 1990). Arriving in the passenger seat of a 1975 Chevy truck was a tall medium
built 18-year-old (Caucasian) young man who just graduated from high school in Carlsbad
California. He was wearing a polo T-shirt and Wrangler jean trousers. His name was Garrett
Herbert Illingsworth – the third); he was 18 years old, active in high school sports activities.
His golden rough hair falls towards the right part of his forehead, he has (with him), a shoulder
bag, and a roll-along suitcase with enough belongings to last him for two weeks while visiting
his beloved grandmother named Mrs. DORA T. M. ILLINGSWORTH. She was 89-year-old
Caucasian woman (medium built); a widower since her late husband (Admiral T. Burgess
Illingsworth – the first passed away fifteen years earlier). She walks with a slight bend,
constantly fixature her palm in gesture of praying. As she waits for Garrett’s arrival, sitting on
the porch of her old Victorian house on a rocking chair with knitting material in her hands; and
beside her was his beloved cat of 8 years, called Day-De-Past).
She welcomes Garrett in a soft Southern accent by saying: Welcome home, honey.
GARRETT ILLINGSWORTH to Mrs. Dora Illingsworth; Hello grandma.
Mrs. DORA ILLINGSWORTH to Garrett: LORDI! LORDI! You have grown taller since the last time I
saw you; Oh! My LORDI!
GARRETT ILLINGSWORT (to Mrs. Dora Illingsworth) …. Mild laughs, and then, thanks grandma.
How have you been grandma, it is good to see you grandma!
Mrs. DORA ILLINGSWORTH
(Said to Garrett), I am ok, a few aches here and there. So, how was your trip?
Garrett Illingsworth replies to Mrs. Dora Illingsworth…It was ok, grandma.
Mrs. DORA ILLINGSWORTH to Garrett.
Go and put your luggage in your room, your auntie (Sally) went to Pittsburgh, she will be back
soon.
And then, Mrs. Illingsworth then notice the family vehicle approaching…. And therefore, she
said……oh, there she comes, she is just pulling up right now.
(SALLY), she was 38 years old 5ft. 7in. (Caucasian) slim figure, she’s married to a sailor (who
was) stationed in Japan. Sally was a jovial person, she coined nicknames for (almost) everyone
in the family; she was a school board superintendent who also (privately) operates a senior
support facility center in nearby Pittsburg Kansas.
And then, SALLY said to Garrett: Nephew-G! You have grown taller since the last time I saw you.
Mrs. DORA ILLINGSWORTH…interrupts… and said to
Garrett: You see; that is what I “told yah”!
GARRETT ILLINGSWORTH to Mrs. Dora Illingsworth and Sally Strayhorn) …. with a mild
laughter, Garrett said: “Ya’ll” quit, and laugh again.
SALLY, said to Garrett, how is CALIFOR-YAN?
GARRETT ILLINGSWORTH responded to Sally: “Pretty good”. And then, SALLY said to Garrett:
Good! You have not lost those country drawls.
GARRETT ILLINGSWORTH said to Sally: Aunty, a country boy is always gon’ be a country boy.
Mrs. DORA ILLINGSWORT (as she continues knitting her woven cloth) …. paused (for a moment)
and then look at sally…… and then, both …… (Simultaneously) said…
……” You got that right………….”
